Airphone is our Voice over IP (or VoIP) telephone service - VoIP simply means that your voice calls are sent over your Internet connection instead of the normal telephone POTS (copper wire) network provided by Telecom.Airphone VoIP is great if you have an Airstream Wireless connection or if you travel since you can make and receive calls anywhere in the world as long as you have access to an Internet connection. With Airphone you can choose to only use our service for outgoing calls or select a monthly plan which includes an incoming local number, voicemail, call waiting, caller ID and more. We can even port your existing Telecom phone number to your Airphone subscription so you can keep the same number. Each Airphone connection requires the use of a VoIP capable phone or an Airphone analogue telephone adapter where you can use your existing telephone or Fax equipment. What is VoIP? VoIP allows you to make telephone calls using a computer network, over a data network like the Internet. VoIP converts the voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that travels over you internet connection then converts it back at the other end so you can speak to anyone with a regular telephone number. VoIP can be implemented in several ways, from a software program on your computer used with a headset and microphone to adaptors we can provide to be used with regular analogue home phones or you can use dedicated VoIP phones which look and act like regular phones but have been specially designed to include services not availible with analogue (Telecom) lines. Call quality is generally better than analogue lines as your voice is converted then transmitted as a digital signal kind of like a Compact Disc.
